Browns DL Mike Hall pleads no contest in domestic violence case
Mike Hall, a rookie defensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, has entered a plea in court to close out his domestic violence case, according to TMZ Sports. Hall, who was facing a first-degree domestic violence charge stemming from an alleged violent altercation with a woman on Aug. 12, pled no contest to a reduced count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct on Thursday.
During his appearance in court, Hall told the judge he lamented “the whole situation and wish this never happened.” The 2024 second-round pick also said he’s been undergoing counseling “and trying to better myself” since the incident. The judge gave Hall a 30-day suspended jail sentence, two years of probation, and a fine of $250.
Hall’s next move is to return to the Browns and make his NFL debut. Kevin Spellacy, Hall’s attorney, said they are working with the NFL to see if his client can play for the Browns this year. Hall is on the NFL’s Commissioner’s exempt list, meaning he cannot practice or attend games until his exemption is lifted.
Hall, 21, was arrested after he allegedly threatened his fiancée with a gun during a fight. Police were called to a home in Avon, Ohio after a woman claimed Hall pushed her daughter and hit her with a baby bottle. Hall then left the scene, and the woman was not injured.

The Browns selected Hall after being named to the All-Big Ten Third Team in 2022 and 2023 at Ohio State. “Ultimately it came down to talent,” Browns Vice President of Player Personnel Glenn Cook said after the team drafted him, per ClevelandBrowns.com. “He is a really talented young man. The way I would describe him is a shapeshifter. The way he can move his body, the way he can attack the quarterback.”
“He has to earn it just like all other guys. We would love if he did,” Cook added “Look, you can never have enough guys who can impact the quarterback and impact the passing game. So again he has to come in and obviously integrate himself into the way we do things. We hope he does.”
