Browns name starter between Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson vs. Bengals
Cleveland Browns (3-11) head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get the start under center in Sunday’s Week 16 road game against the Cincinnati Bengals (6-8).
With Thompson-Robinson the new QB1, that sends Jameis Winston back to the bench.
“[He’s] really gotten better in every area,” Stefanski said. “I mean, I can go back to when we first got Dorian and some of the things were different in terms of calling the plays in the huddle and some of the cadence stuff at the line of scrimmage. So, he’s done a very good job of getting up to speed on all the nuance of the position. He’s done a very good job of keeping himself prepared for when a moment comes that he’s been put in there. So, he’s really taken to the preparation part of this really well.”
Browns making another change at QB
Winston, the 2015 No. 1 overall pick, has started the last seven games after Deshaun Watson suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon in Week 7 against the Bengals. Winston provided a spark to Cleveland’s offense, leading the Browns to wins over the Baltimore Ravens (9-5) and Pittsburgh Steelers (10-4). Turnovers, however, have been an issue for Winston, as they have been the entirety of his NFL career.
