Bryce Young has been 'as advertised' for Carolina Panthers
Expectations are nothing new to Bryce Young as a former top quarterback recruit and Heisman Trophy winner as well as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. That’s why it should be no surprise that the former Alabama QB is living up to his billing so far with the Carolina Panthers.
In an article at ESPN, NFL Nation reporters updated the latest on every first round pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. In Young’s case, David Newton described him as having ‘been as advertised’ with no further evidence necessary than his movement to Carolina’s QB1 spot.
“Young has been as advertised, living up to all the expectations the Panthers had when they selected him No. 1,” said Newton. “From his ability to process information, to making all the throws, to earning the respect of his teammates? He’s on a clear path to be the Week 1 starter.”
“He already has been elevated to QB1 over Andy Dalton, a clear sign the staff and teammates have confidence in him,” Newton wrote.
All kinds of rave reviews have come from out of Charlotte about Young. Head coach Frank Reich said that he had ‘just complete command, control, poise’ and added that he ‘has picked it up extremely fast’ when talking about his reps.
Meanwhile, Panthers S Xavier Woods described Young’s energy as ‘solid swagger’ while also stating that ‘he’s humble with it’. DE Brian Burns admitted that ‘it’s hard not to like that kid’, especially considering his ‘‘humble but I know I’m the s—‘ type of swag’. Finally, in Newton’s tidbit, WR DJ Chark said that Carolina ‘believe(s) he can take us to some really high places’.

You never really know what you’re getting in a draft pick until they officially hit the field for the first time. Still, based on everything here from Newton to Young’s coaching staff and teammates, it sounds like the Panther’s next starter has already made quite the impression ahead of training camp and his rookie season.
Young evaluates the progress he has made since Panthers drafted him
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has only been a member of the franchise for a little under two months. But the No. 1 pick has had ample opportunities to make improvements during that time with offseason workouts and minicamp.
The former Heisman Trophy winner spoke this week about the progress he has made and how he evaluates himself in terms of goals.
“I’m not huge as far as long-term goals, long-term checklists or timeline for me,” Young said. “I try to take things day by day. And I base things day by day off of the people I’m around. Off of my coaches, off of my teammates. What are we going to get better at tomorrow. How did this practice go? What do we want to improve at? What went well that we can stay consistent on? (And) what stuff didn’t go as well that we want to improve on?”
“And I think that’s a day by day thing. I think that changes every day,” said Young. For me? I don’t think there’s one small detail I’m going to be focused on for a long period of time. Sometimes it ends up like that. Sometimes it’s something that’s consistent, is a recurring theme and you end up focused on it for a while. But, for me, I take things day by day. I lean on my coaching staff and my teammates to figure out what I got to get better at. What we as a unit have to get better at. And I think that’s really a day by day reevaluation.”
