Bryce Young, the rookie starting quarterback for the Panthers, missed Wednesday’s practice because of an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, edge rusher Brian Burns also was limited during the session. It was a light practice, more of a walk-through. Carolina played Monday night, so it’s a short week since the Panthers turn around and fly to Seattle for a Sunday game against the Seahawks.

Panthers coach Frank Reich told reporters that he didn’t know when Young sustained the injury. Nor does he know whether the injury will prevent Young from playing against the Seahawks. If he can’t go, Andy Dalton would start,

The Panthers also made a roster move, adding former Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton to the practice squad. Luton, a former Jaguars draft pick, had been with the Panthers in training camp.

Meanwhile, Bryce Young finished the game, Monday, against the Saints. And his final drive was his best of the evening, as he guided the Panthers on a touchdown drive plus a two-point conversion.

There were other players listed on the injury report. Burns also is dealing with an ankle issue. Linebacker Justin Houston was nursing a tender calf. Running back Miles Sanders (pectoral) and linebacker Chandler Wooten (knee) also were limited in what they could do in practice.

Reich already was trying to limit the number of hits Young would sustain during a game. Against the Saints, Reich sent in Dalton, twice, to run a short-yardage play.

“Some of those things you just want to limit the exposure of Bryce to,” Reich told reporters. “Bryce can do any of it, but you got an experienced veteran. There’s no golden rule that says he can’t come in and play a couple plays in the game. Look what the Saints did. I know Taysom Hill’s a different story, but why not do that to a lesser extent if it can be utilized in a positive way?”

In two games, both of them starts, Young has completed 42 of his 71 passes for 299 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
