Bryce Young reveals what stands out about the Panthers' wide receiver room

Bryce Young is ready to lead the Carolina Panthers into battle during his sophomore campaign, and he recognizes he’ll need the best from the team’s wide receiving corps in 2024.
The unit disappointed Young and the team as a whole last season, but they were far from the only problem in Carolina. A new coach and system has galvanized the offense, and some exciting additions will be looking to make a name for themselves.
As the team’s training camp rages on, Young spoke with reporters about the receiving corps, and what’s stood out about them throughout the summer.
“I think, just speaking on this year and this group of receivers, just the competitiveness. There’s been shuffling, there’s been people playing in different spots, and a willingness to learn,” Young said, regarding what’s different in this year’s receiving corps than 2023’s iteration. “You know, there’s a new system this year, and no one has come in like, ‘Ah, I’ve done this in another system with another team,’ everyone’s came in with a growth mindset. Everyone’s willing to learn. Everyone’s embraced the coaching.
“We’ve all had to learn this together, so the amount of communication we’ve had. I mean, the willingness to go out there and — willingness to make mistakes and then go back and correct them, and there’s no, ‘Ah, maybe this,’ everyone wants to learn. Everyone wants to grown. I think also, being able to see that translate, from OTAs to training camp to now, we have a big point of emphasis of not making the same mistake twice, and seeing the willingness to grow and that translating, it’s been great watching this wide receiver group.”

As we move into a new campaign for the Panthers, they’re returning receivers like veteran Adam Thielen for another go round, along with players like Terrace Marshall Jr. and Jonathan Mingo. However, it’s new additions like Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette where the confidence begins to rise.
Johnson has made a name for himself in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Panthers opted to acquire him over the offseason. Additionally, they moved back into the first round to select Legette, and he’s been a hit with fans and the media since arriving in Carolina.
In the end, it’ll all fall on the shoulders of Bryce Young to bring the Panthers back to prominence, but his supporting cast has been greatly improved by the moves the Carolina front office has made.
