Bryson DeChambeau getting treatment for his hip as he leads U.S. Open
While Bryson DeChambeau was climbing to the top of Saturday’s U.S. Open leader board, he also was dealing with a sore hip.
Todd Lewis, an anchor for the Golf Channel, said that DeChambeau woke up with “discomfort” in his right hip Saturday morning. Lewis said DeChambeau was taking treatment on the course. By rule, he can have two treatments during a round.
DeChambeau called for a physiotherapist as he was making the turn to No. 10 at Pinehurst Golf Club. It’s his right hip that was giving him problems.
NBC drone cameras showed the treatment as DeChambeau ducked under some trees.

But the hip issue, however painful it might be, definitely wasn’t interfering with DeChambeau’s third round at the U.S. Open.
He started his Saturday at four-under par. He caught fire on the fifth hole. From there he notched four birdies to take the lead. He also was animated with the gallery following him. He slapped high fives with fans as they cheered him on.

“Yeah, it was amazing,” DeChambeau told reporters after his round. “I can’t thank them enough. It was a blessing. Man, they riled me up. It just gives me a spike in my adrenaline and allows me to focus more on delivering for the fans and for myself and for my family. It just inspires me.”
In fact, if NBC hadn’t mentioned the hip issue, no one would’ve known the golfer had anything else on his mind as he aimed for his second U.S. Open title. The former SMU standout won his only major back in 2020.
DeChambeau ended the afternoon at seven under. That was good enough for a three-stroke lead over Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon. His round featured six birdies. His one bad hole was No. 16, when he shot a double-bogey six. But he responded with a birdie on No. 17. His par on No. 18 cemented his lead.
