Bubba Wallace got candid about cars flipping during the latest NASCAR races. While appearing on the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Wallace was asked by Dale Earnhardt Jr. about drivers being concerned about flipping during a race since it happened to Corey LaJoie, Michael McDowell and Josh Berry.

“Cars go fast, they’re going to flip. Knock on wood, I’ve never flipped in my career, I’ve gotten close,” Wallace said. “It has been kind of crazy the last two weeks. We’ve seen four flips now, three on the Cup side. It’s just being in the wrong spot at the wrong time, being in a bad spot.”

“I thought LaJoie’s was pretty wild, but man the wind was gusting so hard. We had a massive headwind in Michigan. That plays a factor. …I think LaJoie is the only one where it’s like, ‘What happened there?’ The other stuff is what we’ve seen years down the road. Simple enough, don’t crash, don’t flip.”

After LaJoie’s flip, NASCAR mandated that all cars have a right air deflector, and that will start when the playoffs begin at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 8. Additionally LaJoie visited NASCAR’s R&D Center to get an explanation as to why his car flipped at Michigan.

Bubba Wallace reveals his mindset following Daytona race

Wallace is happy that he hasn’t flipped in a race but is not satisfied with where he is in the playoff standings. The 30-year-old is currently 17th and 21 points behind Chris Buescher for the final spot in the postseason. On the podcast, Wallace said he wasn’t in a great mood after the Daytona race.

“I think I looked at the schedule a week before the off weekend and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s Darlington this time. I thought it was Daytona the whole time.’ So, there’s two sides of it coming out of Daytona. You’re bummed, you’re pissed off, not really pissed off but you’re frustrated you’re not in. You did what you were supposed to do, we outraced the 1 car [Ross Chastain], and we have a six-point cushion to him. But we had a new winner. So, it’s like the goalposts moved again.

“I had Sunday to be down and figure out is it gonna work, is it not gonna work? I had Monday to — being at the shop brought all the competitive juices but you’re not ready for it, so I wasn’t in the best of moods yesterday.”
