Bubba Wallace destroys Austin Dillon after controversial Richmond finish
Bubba Wallace took a big shot at Austin Dillon after a controversial finish to the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway on Sunday. The 30-year-old driver spoke to NBC Sports after the race and went after Dillon for wrecking Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin to get the win.
“We just got to keep fighting and man, guess you could dump somebody and right-rear somebody and be okay. It’s funny how it works,” Wallace said. And when Wallace was asked about being in the playoffs by three points with three races remaining, Wallace replied, “In by three, got beat by the three. It was a chickenshit move.”
Wallace might not like what Dillon did to earn a much-needed victory, but it was a good night for him, finishing fourth and putting himself in a position to clinch a playoff spot. But Wallace knows that if he wants to hold on to the spot, he will have to continue to race strong for the rest of the month.
“We knew we had to work coming in here, obviously being below and our team did just that,” Wallace stated. “We fought hard. Man, we did not have the best day pit road, not from a lack of effort. Appreciate them getting better all night. They showed up when it mattered on the last stop, kept us in it.

Bubba Wallace shares more on Richmond race
“Our Leidos Toyota Camry was way too loose. I tried to bite my tongue from the start of practice, and it was such a handful and it definitely bit us in the race. Kept making it better and better, trying to get the best feedback that I could and just executed all night. I appreciate the effort from my team, nice to walk away here from a top-five finish.”
Wallace is making a strong push to compete for a Cup Series title. In the last five races, the Alabama native has finished in the top 10 four times. And the last two weeks Wallace has earned consecutive top-five finishes. Wallace made his playoff debut last year and finished 10th in the Cup Series standings. So far this season, Wallace has earned seven top-10 and five top-five finishes.
