Bubba Wallace focused on eliminating mistakes, earning a regular season win
With the regular season winding down, Bubba Wallace is among those NASCAR drivers on the playoff bubble. He has his chances to earn a win and a playoff spot. However, it might come down to a points battle. While he wouldn’t want to be counting points at Daytona in a couple of months, his focus is on the postseason.
This is not a place Bubba Wallace has been before. This season, propelled by a string of top-5 finishes, Wallace has placed himself in a spot where he kind of controls his own destiny. A P8 qualifying result at New Hampshire even has Wallace showing some confidence.
Ahead of the Crayon 301 at New Hampshire, Wallace talked about winning versus the points battle. It is clear what his focus is on.
“Yeah if NASCAR keeps giving the 24 wins then we’ll be good,” Wallace jokingly said via Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. “Kidding! Totally kidding! But I was glad they called it when he was leading seeing who was up there. For him to get another win, that’s good.
“Look, we want to win. We have to win. We can’t point our way into a championship. So, we need to win, we need to win early enough to lock ourselves in. But if we can’t do that that’d be unfortunate but we’ve got to points our way too. Mistakes don’t create points, so we have to eliminate mistakes to get points.”
In order to make the playoffs, Bubba Wallace will have to outperform drivers like Daniel Suárez, Michael McDowell, AJ Allmendinger, and Chase Elliott.
Bubba Wallace ‘locked in’ on winning
It isn’t just a little bit of confidence that Bubba Wallace has, it is a whole lot of it. Wallace was quick to take to Twitter after qualifying. With P8 locked up and secured for the start, the 23XI Racing driver has his eyes on a checkered flag.

Wallace was one of four Toyotas to make the final qualifying round. Christopher Bell won the pole while Martin Truex Jr. is starting on the front row. It could be a battle of the Toyotas on Monday.
“Regular season is closing in, we see it,” Wallace tweeted. “Eyes are locked in on the checkered. Time to shift our momentum and rebound. Rolling off P8 tomorrow, nothing left to do but get after it.”
Last season, Wallace qualified P4 and finished the race P3 in New Hampshire. Bell on the other hand, won the race. It looks like the defending winner and even some others in the field will be hard to beat. That hasn’t caused the 23 to lack any confidence.
Bubba Wallace will have a shot at the Magic Mile on Monday. With the playoffs on the line, is he going to be able to close it out this season?
