Bubba Wallace No. 23 pit crew completed second-fastest NASCAR pit stop of all-time at Homestead

Bubba Wallace had a great day in Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. As did his No. 23 pit crew, who nearly set a NASCAR record.
Wallace’s crew completed a four-tire pit stop with 54 laps to go in just 8.22 seconds. It tied them with the No. 19 crew for the second fastest NASCAR pit stop of all-time, per Bozi Tatarevic of Road & Track. The No. 77 crew holds the overall record at 8.19 seconds. That pit stop was a big one, as Wallace came off pit road first to take the lead in Stage 3.
The No. 23 team has come a long way in a short amount of time. As recent as last season, issues on pit road negatively impacted Wallace’s performance on the racetrack. It ultimately prompted a change as Charles Denike replaced Bootie Barker as crew chief for the 2025 season.
So far, so good for the No. 23 team. And though Wallace came up just short at Homestead — finishing third — he made sure to compliment his team for their success on pit road.

Denny Hamlin: Bubba Wallace, 23 team just ‘get better and better’
“My pit crew has just been on fire,” Wallace said after the race. “Tremendous amount of work has gone in the last five years of this team to get to where we’re at. We’re not where we want to be, but we’re damn sure competitive each and every stop. They got us up there and gave me a shot, and our Columbia Toyota Camry was just gamechanger.”
Through six races this season, Wallace sits seventh in the points standings. While he’s finished 20th or worse in four races, he’s run well and managed to pick up points. 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin is pleased with the progress of the 23 team.
“The 23 team deserves a shot out as well,” Hamlin said on Monday’s Actions Detrimental podcast. “Bubba’s performance throughout the day, they continue to just get better and better like we’ve been saying for the last few years. Between Charles [Denike] leading that team and Bubba, they’ve just really stepped up this year and are running great.”
