Bubba Wallace reacts to 'rough' day at Bristol

At one point today, it looked like Bubba Wallace would walk away with a top-10 performance, but he left Bristol P19. Once you got stuck in traffic or a lap down, it was hard to make up ground and actually move up in the NASCAR field.

Bubba Wallace had a great Bristol race last fall. Despite getting a similar race today, instead of an aggressive tire management race, Wallace didn’t do as well. He was mired back in traffic, and at the end of the race, a last-ditch effort to run long didn’t work out.

This year, there is a new Bubba, though. Perhaps he would have been frustrated and upset after a race like today a year ago, two or three years ago. Not today.

“Damn that was rough,” Wallace posted on X/Twitter. “Thought it was going alright and then just plateaued.

“Hearing my wife make Becks laugh on the way to plan. [sic] Made me realize, oh well move on. Nothing better than hearing that! See yall in dega, I’m out.”

Nothing like hearing your son’s laughter to make everything good again. When you talk about how Bubba Wallace used to be and how he is now, the only way word for it is perspective. The entire world has changed for him, and that’s a good thing.

Bubba Wallace maintains his 8th place position in the points after today. He is in a great spot early on this season compared to his past seasons. He trails his teammate Tyler Reddick by 23 points. The 23XI Racing duo has never been closer through nine races than they are right now.

Bubba Wallace has chance to win after week off

When the NASCAR Cup Series returns from the week off, Bubba Wallace will be a driver to talk about. Talladega is the first track he ever won a Cup Series race at, albeit a weather-shortened race, and he’s itching to get it done in the full length this time.

Last season, Tyler Reddick won at Talladega. Is it time for Bubba to get his again? We know that the 23 is strong on the drafting tracks. It all comes down to what happens on those final two laps. Speaking of, are we going to see NASCAR randomly keep the race green when the field inevitably wrecks on the last lap?

Wallace has done a solid job of picking up points this season. He needs to find the strong finishes, though. After Easter, Talladega, Texas, and Kansas are three tracks where Wallace should feel like a contender. He has to have the car to do it, though.

It’s great that Bubba Wallace can shake this off. Two tough weeks on the track, but he knows there are brighter days ahead and more important things to worry about.
