Bubba Wallace‘s spotter, Freddie Kraft, took a slight jab at the NASCAR driver for what he did at the COTA race on Sunday. On the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Kraft talked about Wallace’s performance at COTA while wondering how he hit a choose cone.

“Our race went really well. We planned on getting stage points in that first stage,” Kraft said. “He obviously made a mistake, got a course cutting penalty run in second, but it only dropped us back to about eighth or ninth. We still cycled back to the lead, won the stage.

“And then, we were in position. We were right there, we pitted on that last yellow, put tires on, we were 20th or 21st. I think we probably easily would have drove to the top 10. Unfortunately, he hit the damn choose cone, which I don’t know how the f*** that happens. He couldn’t see it I guess with the glare. I don’t know if the glare was bad for anybody else. But then just kind of compound some mistakes and got behind, spun out in the last lap. Still a good day for us, 30 points. I think we had top 10 points on the day. So it’s a good day for us, but it could have been a lot better for sure.”

Bubba Wallace expresses frustration during COTA race

As Kraft mentioned, Wallace won the first stage of the COTA race. And despite earning a P20 finish on Sunday, Wallace did enough to stay in the top 10 of the NASCAR Cup Series points standings. He is currently in sixth place and one point behind COTA winner Christopher Bell and Chase Elliott. Wallace is 22 points behind leader William Byron.

After winning the first stage, Wallace shared his frustration with his team. “Alright, I’ve got nothing for rear tires. No lateral, no forward, no backward, no nothing,” Wallace said. His team told him they would make adjustments to give him more grip in the rear.

“Yeah, like, common sense to me is I’m slower than the field, so how the f*** am I using my tires more? And falling backwards?” Wallace added. “I’m trying to save and I just get so out of rhythm. So, might just need a lot of help. This thing is just dancing all around through the esses. You get off sequence one time and that’s it.”
