The Buffalo Bills could be getting cornerback Tre’Davious White back soon after he missed the last 11 months with a torn ACL. White has been making his way back into the practice rotation over the past few weeks, and the Bills announced on Monday that they would be activating the former LSU star to their 53-man roster ahead of his practice window expiring.

Tre’Davious White returning to the Bills active roster

“The Bills confirm they will activate cornerback Tre’Davious White to the 53-man roster by Wednesday, but maintain that he’ll remain day to day. No status for Sunday or anything like that,” explained The Athletic‘s Joe Buscaglia.

Having been placed on the Reserve/PUP list before the season began, the Bills had to wait four weeks of the regular season to even begin to allow White to return to practice. After the four-week wait, the Bills had a five-week window to allow him to begin practicing — with 21 days to decide to activate him from the beginning of his practice return.

White’s 21-day window would end on Wednesday, leaving the Bills with a decision to move him to their active roster now or lose him for the remainder of the season. Although the move to their 53-man roster does not guarantee he will see any playing time soon, it does allow for a return this season for White.

‘He’ll remain day to day and not really going to get into speculating on whether he’s going to play this week or not,” coach Sean McDermott said of the decision. “We’re just going to continue to take it day by day like we’ve done to this point.”

White’s return will be a huge boost to a Buffalo defense that is battling injuries, despite their continued success on the field. The Bills lead the league in interceptions with 11, and have allowed a fourth-fewest 11 offensive touchdowns to opposing teams.
