Buffalo Bills add former Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula to staff

The Buffalo Bills announced a big addition to the coaching staff for 2022 on Tuesday. Former Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach and Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula is heading to Buffalo as a senior offensive assistant.

Along with the Shula additions, the Bills also announced a promotion for Eric Washington. Buffalo’s defensive line coach the past two seasons is now defensive line coach/senior defensive assistant.

Shula was the head coach at the University of Alabama from 2003 to 2006, prior to the Nick Saban era. He has nearly 30 years of NFL coaching on his resume and is the son of the NFL’s winningest coach, Don Shula. His resume also includes stops with the Buccaneers, Dolphins, Bears, Jaguars, Panthers and Giants.

Mike Shula’s move to the Bills is a reunion for the new assistant and head coach Sean McDermott. The two worked together in Carolina during the height of the Cam Newton era.

Bills trade Trubisky to Pittsburgh

Former starting quarterback and first-round pick of the Chicago Bears Mitchell Trubisky has agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Trubisky spent last season in Buffalo as the backup to Josh Allen. Now he will get the chance to battle it out with Mason Rudolph for Ben Roethlisberger’s old job.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the former Tar Heels quarterback is signing a two-year contract with the Steelers. And the deal is a fairly good investment for Pittsburgh.

“New Steelers QB Mitchell Trubisky is set to sign a two-year deal with a base value of $14 million, per source. Reasonable price for Pittsburgh, good opportunity for Trubisky,” wrote Breer via Twitter.

Although he saw limited action in the regular season, Trubisky looked like a quality quarterback worthy of a starting opportunity in the preseason for the Bills.
