The Buffalo Bills announced Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht have each been suspended six games for PED use. Both players signed with the franchise in free agency this week.

While speaking with reporters, Bills general manager Brandon Beane confirmed the team knew about Hoecht’s pending suspension. However, they did not know about Ogunjobi, and he will also miss the start of the season.

Hoecht signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Bills after five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Ogunjobi inked a one-year deal worth $8.3 million following three years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hoecht spent four years in Los Angeles, starting out on the defensive line and moving to outside linebacker in 2023. He made a seamless transition, totaling 6.0 sacks in 2023 in his first full season at the position while adding 81 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits.

As for Ogunjobi, he arrived in Pittsburgh in 2022 after initially signing with the Chicago Bears. However, the team said he failed a physical, which allowed him to go back on the market and ultimately end up with the Steelers. This past season, he appeared in 15 games, totaling 41 tackles and five tackles for loss on the Pittsburgh defensive line.

The Bills have been active in free agency, notably signing Joey Bosa as they worked to bolster their defense. He was released by the Los Angeles Chargers this week and signed a one-year contract worth $12.6 million.

One of the biggest questions about Bosa, though, is his health. Injuries got in the way of his final years in Los Angeles, although Beane told reporters the Bills “have a plan” to help keep him healthy. He also pointed to Bosa’s “violent” playing style as something that jumps out.

In addition, Buffalo took care of one of its own this offseason. The Bills announced a massive new contract for quarterback Josh Allen. They made him the highest-paid player in the NFL with a new six-year contract worth $330 million and has $250 in guaranteed money.

Allen had four years remaining on his deal, but the Bills decided to reward the 28-year-old with a new one after an MVP season in 2024. He is now under contract through the 2030 season. The guarantee is the largest ever given to an NFL player. Deshaun Watson was the previous record holder when the Cleveland Browns gave him $230 million guaranteed in 2022.
