Report: Buffalo Bills hosting Leonard Fournette on a visit

The Buffalo Bills will host free agent running back Leonard Fournette on a visit Tuesday, the 28-year-old told NFL insider Jordan Schultz Monday.

Fournette has fielded interest from several teams, but if all goes well Tuesday, there’s a good chance he signs with Buffalo. Fournette has been a free agent since March when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released him after three seasons with the team.

He is coming off a season in which he rushed for 668 yards on 3.5 yards per carry and three touchdowns. He added 73 receptions for 523 yards and three scores. Prior to joining the Buccaneers in 2020, Fournette spent three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. A 2017 first-round pick out of LSU, Fournette rushed for 2,631 yards on 4.0 yards per carry and 17 touchdowns. He also hauled in 134 receptions for 1,009 yards and two scores.

Should Fournette sign with the Bills, he would join a running back corps spearheaded by James Cook and Latavius Murray. Together, the two have combined for 491 yards on 4.5 yards per carry and three touchdowns. Buffalo is looking to add another tailback to the mix following the injury to Damien Harris in the 14-9 Week 6 victory over the New York Giants Sunday.

As the Bills battled for their fourth win of the season, Harris was rushed to the hospital after going down on the field and requiring medical attention. However, Harris has full movement in his extremities after suffering a neck sprain. The injury came on his only carry of the game.

“So, things are heading in a good direction right now for Damien,” head coach Sean McDermott said.

Harris is in his first season in Buffalo after having spent the previous four seasons with the New England Patriots. He had logged just five carries for 22 yards and a touchdown this season, while also catching two passes for 16 yards. He’s been used primarily as a short-yardage option.

In total in his career, Harris has run for 2,187 yards and 21 touchdowns, while catching 53 passes for 297 yards. He is a former third-round NFL Draft pick by the Patriots, coming into the league in 2019.
