Josh Allen reveals Stefon Diggs was voted a Bills team captain, communication at an all-time high
There was a stretch of the offseason where Stefon Diggs‘ future with the Buffalo Bills seemed in question. His absence at mandatory minicamp raised concern from head coach Sean McDermott, with reports surfacing of him being unhappy with his role in the offense and his input in the team’s play calling.
Diggs has since cleared the air via social media, citing a family matter as a reason for his absence at minicamp and saying it is all now “water under the bridge”. And his quarterback Josh Allen recently appeared on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’ and said there was never a worry that his favorite target wouldn’t be a Buffalo Bill this upcoming season.
“I think between me and him our communication’s an all-time high,” Allen said. “Just understanding some of our concepts better, making sure that we’re talking and having an open line of communication. He was just voted a captain today, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that.”
Diggs was voted as a team captain for the Bills for his third connective season, something that McAfee expressed surprise and excitement about calling the achievement a big deal.
“I mean for everybody else, for us obviously there was no doubt,” Allen said. “The energy and the juice he’s had this training camp and as we’re going in the season, it’s at an all-time high.”
Diggs remaining a team leader through an offseason of distractions is a great sign for the Bills, as they look to build on their four straight seasons of double-digit wins and playoff appearances.
Diggs has been a big part of the Bills’ recent success, with Buffalo acquiring him via a trade with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. He immediately had a rapport with Allen, notching career highs in receptions and yards in his first year with the team with 127 catches for 1,535 yards and eight scores on the season.

Every season since the duo has notched over 1,000 yards together and 10-plus touchdowns for Diggs, but Allen believes they can still reach new heights this upcoming season.
“So obviously love playing with him, we’re gonna continue to grow and get better, and I think this is going to be our best year yet. I really believe that,” Allen said.
The addition of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets has elevated the level of competition in the AFC East this season, as the entire AFC Conference as a whole is now comprised of strong teams and elite talent at the quarterback position.
But with the duo of Allen and Diggs on the same page and the Bills hungry to make it back to a Super Bowl for the first time since the 1993-94 season, Buffalo will be hard to count out of the playoff conversation in 2023.
