After suffering an injury at training camp practice on Tuesday, Buffalo Bills safety Matt Milano is now “out indefinitely” with a torn bicep. It’s a brutal, potentially season-ending, injury for Milano after he suffered a season-ending leg injury just last year.

During the 2023 season, the former Boston College standout suffered a tibia fracture in a Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It knocked him out for the remainder of the year. Before the injury, he had 30 tackles, with three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Milano also snagged two interceptions in his first four games, one against the Jets and one against the Raiders.

The Buffalo Bills will now be counting on second-year defender Dorian Williams to fill Milano’s role. He was the team’s third-round pick in last year’s draft out of Tulane.

Milano, prior to injury, was preparing for his eighth year in the league. According to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, the team is holding out hope that after surgery, the safety will make a full recovery and return to the team.

“It’s an unfortunate situation… He’s resilient,” McDermott said, via Cameron Wolfe. “We’ve got to be resilient.”

In his first seven seasons in the league, Milano established himself as a key piece of the Bills defense. He racked up 50 tackles in 16 games played as a rookie, and increased his production in every other healthy season that he had.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Milano with the No. 163 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 90 regular-season games played so far, all for the Bills, he’s tallied 489 tackles. He also has 10.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries with four forced fumbles and one touchdown.
