In a new proposal being considered later this week, the City of Concord is deciding where the Cadillac F1 team facility will be built. It is being reported that the proposed land is located on property owned by Hendrick Motorsports.

GM and Chevrolet already have performance facilities located near or on the Hendrick property. Adding a new Formula One team is a big deal. Having it located near other motorsports resources is important.

Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press reported on the proposal from the City of Concord this afternoon. According to Fryer, the property would take up 10 acres of Hendrick property. The facility itself would be 204,045 square feet and would be near a GM technical center.

The proposal overall is noted as $140,000,000-$150,000,000. The building itself would make up $65,000,000-$70,000,000 of the cost with the rest of the $75,000,000-$80,000,000 in personal property and equipment.

It looks like General Motors is planning on centralizing its motorsports efforts. Having the Cadillac F1 team near Hendrick Motorsports would be beneficial for both organizations. Who knows, maybe one day here soon, with the Chevy Camaro out of production, Cadillac might make its way to NASCAR.

That also brings up the question about Spire Motorsports. The ownership group behind the Cadillac F1 team is the same group behind Spire. So, who knows how those two will have some kind of mutual partnership in the future as well.

America is getting an F1 team. That is awesome. But let’s not overlook the fact that team has to put its facility on land owned by a NASCAR organization.

Cadillac F1 team is big deal for America, Andretti family

The push to get Cadillac and an American F1 team accepted onto the grid was a hard-fought one. Michael Andretti stepped back from the leadership group and made his peace with that. Meanwhile, Mario Andretti will serve as a team ambassador.

When it comes to drivers for the F1 team it is an interesting thought exercise. Colton Herta has been floated with his connection to Andretti and Gainbridge. If I were the decision maker behind the newly forming organization I would do anything to get Pato O’Ward in one of my cars.

Being a brand new team will be hard. Nothing comes easy in motorsports. General Motors appears to be willing to spend big money to set up the facility needed to compete at the highest level. It won’t be podiums and championships in the first year.

The Cadillac F1 team is going to do great things for American motorsports. Debuting in 2026, maybe 2026 would be the perfect time to announce Cadillac to NASCAR. If it isn’t going to be Chevy, it might as well be another notable brand.
