As the Olympics kicked off a full day of action, Saturday, the Paris La Défense Arena was the place to be. That’s why you had Snoop Dogg sitting next to Meghan Dressel as they both celebrated Team USA’s first gold medal of the games.

The U.S. men’s 400-meter relay won in dominating fashion, with Caeleb Dressel, the star of the Tokyo Olympics and a legendary Florida Gator, swimming the anchor leg. The Americans won in dominating fashion.

And here was the reaction between Snoop and Meghan. August, the Dressel’s six-month-old son, looked like the slept through all the pandemonium.

After the Americans clinched, Caeleb Dressel went to find his wife and son in the stands. He’s an emotional man, and Dressel blinked back tears as he took in the moment.

“It was really special — my son getting to watch me win a gold medal is everything,” Dressel told NBC.

The U.S. team relay members were Caeleb Dressel, Chris Guiliano, Jack Alexy and Hunter Armstrong. Together, they swam a time of 3 minutes, 9.28 seconds. The team beat runner-up Australia, USA’s greatest rival, by more than a second. Italy earned the bronze.

Have another look at the swim. Armstrong swam the fastest leg of the Americans and gave Dressel a nice lead to bring it home for gold.

Earlier in the swimming session, Katie Ledecky won a bronze medal in the 400 free, while the U.S. women’s relay team earned the silver. It was Ledecky’s 11th Olympic medal and her first bronze. She’s one medal away from tying the most ever won by a female swimmer.

Meanwhile, Dressel picked up his eighth career gold Olympics medal. He won two in the 2016 Rio Games, both were as members of relay teams. Then at Tokyo in 2021, Dressel won five golds, including in the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 100 fly.

Dressel is 8 for 8 in Olympic finals

And here’s a remarkable stat. He’s won gold in every Olympic final of his esteemed career.

The American men also have won the last three sprint relays at the Olympics. Dressel has swum a leg on each of the gold-medal wins.

“Relays are a little more special, to be honest,” Caeleb Dressel told reporters after the relay. “It takes me back to my first gold. It really doesn’t get old. It’s really special standing on the podium with these guys.”

Meghan Dressel also celebrated Caeleb moving up the Olympic record books. She’s been by his side throughout his career. In fact, the two met in high school, when both trained at the Bolles School. His eighth career gold is tied for third most for male swimmers at the Olympics. He now shares that spot in the record books with Matt Biondi, an American.

Late next week, Dressel also will try to defend his gold medals in the 100 fly and 50 free.
