Caitlin Clark appears on SNL's Weekend Update, turns tables on co-host Michael Che
Caitlin Clark made a surprise guest appearance on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” ahead of her presumptive No. 1 overall selection in Monday’s WNBA Draft, showing off a side of herself fans don’t typically get to see.
Weekend Update co-host Michael Che, who, as fellow host Colin Jost pointed out in the skit, has made it a habit of making women’s sports jokes on occassion. That included leading into the bit by joking that after Caitlin Clark’s Iowa jersey was retired this week following her historic collegiate career, she would be turning it in for an apron, which got mixed reactions from audience members.
Enter Caitlin Clark, who received a warm ovation from the studio crowd, as the Hawkeyes star reveals she “heard that little apron joke” Che had made. The skit then saw Clark come ready with some jokes of her own, which she hilariously made Che read live on air.
“The Indiana Fever have the first pick in this Monday’s draft,” Che read. “A reminder that the Indiana Fever is a WNBA team and not what Michael Che gave to women at Purdue University.”
There were more.
“Netflix’s top new show is ‘Ripley, featuring an eerie, unsettling performance by actor Andrew Scott. Critics say it’s the hardest thing to watch since Michael Che’s special ‘Shame the Devil.'”

Che laughed at that one. But Clark wasn’t done.
“Caitlin Clark broke the record for 3-pointers in a single season,” Che continued. “And I have three-pointers for Michael Che: One, be. Two, funnier. Three, dumbass.”
Clark turned to the camera after Che finished reading her jokes, and took a moment to express appreciation to those who paved the way for her. She finished her appearance by presenting Che a memorable gift.
“I’m sure [the WNBA] will be a big step for me,” Clark said. “But it’s just one step for the WNBA thanks to all the great players like Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, the great Dawn Staley and my basketball hero, Maya Moore. They were the women that kicked down the door so that I could walk inside. So I want to thank them tonight for laying the foundation.
“And Michael, since you’re such a big fan, I brought you a souvenir. It’s an apron signed by me.”
Che thanked her for the gift, “I can’t wait to give this to my girlfriend.”
“You don’t have a girlfriend, Michael,” Clark deadpanned.
The skit ended after that, and the next time fans get to see Caitlin Clark will be on Monday for the 2024 WNBA Draft where she is the expected top overall pick.
