Caitlin Clark injury update: Indiana Fever announce star's status for game vs. LA Sparks

Fresh off a 94-86 win over the Seattle Storm to get back to .500 (7-7), the Indiana Fever revealed some unfortunate news Thursday morning. Superstar guard Caitlin Clark, who is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds this season, will miss Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks with a left groin injury.
Clark is “day-to-day,” according to head coach Stephanie White. The coach did not specify if the MRI showed a strain.
“Late last night,” White responded when asked when they found out about the injury. “I think it’s very much a day-to-day thing with how she responds to treatment. I stay in my lane and let our strength and conditioning and our athletic training staff do what they do best. But yeah, found out late last night and we’ll treat it day-to-day.”
Clark returned to the Fever’s lineup in their June 14 win over the New York Liberty after missing five games with a left quad strain. The Iowa product scored a career-best 25 points in the first half, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. Clark ended the game with 32 points, along with nine assists and eight rebounds. The Fever hit 17 three-pointers as a team, which was two shy of the WNBA regular season record.
In the five games Clark had played in since her return, the Fever went 3-2 to get to 7-7 overall (eighth-best mark in the WNBA). Clark averaged 17.6 points in those five games, but scored a season-low six points on 3-13 shooting in Tuesday’s win over the Storm.

“If you want to go straight to the impact, and I know that you referenced her coming off the bad game shooting performance … she was 0-7 from the three point line, she still ended up in double figures, also going back to another game where she was 0-3 against Atlanta, they got that win there,” ESPN’s Angel Gray raved about Clark earlier this week on SportsCenter.
“But despite her numbers from three, she still is huge and putting up some of the best numbers we’ve seen across the ‘W’ and you talk about the impact, look no further than the early release of the voting results, All-Star voting, I think seven players for Indiana are in the top 44, votes, and that is unheard of, four players in the top 10. So yes, when you have eyes on Caitlin, you get eyes on the rest of the team.”
Following the game against the Sparks, Indiana’s next game is against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. That game will take place on June 27.
