With France having closed the margin to three points with minutes remaining in the gold medal game on Saturday, the United States went to the closer: Steph Curry.

In the final two and a half minutes, Curry poured in four 3s — half of his total makes on the day, all from deep — each more devastating than the last to the French. And each one seemingly more impossible than the last to go down.

And Caitlin Clark, who certainly takes cues from Curry in her own game, had a simple description for the way the sharpshooter closed out the gold medal for Team USA.

“Cheat code,” Clark said on her Instagram story, reposting a picture of Curry hitting the “night night” gesture.

Given Clark wasn’t an olympian for the United States women’s team in 2024 — a decision that caused plenty of furor but hasn’t been an issue for what’s arguably been the most dominant team in Paris — it’s a safe bet she’s got her sights set on making the roster for the 2028 games in Los Angeles.

And perhaps there she can have a Curry-esque flourish of her own as the United States seeks to keep dominating international basketball.

Kevin Durant made Olympic history on Saturday

He’s an NBA champion twice over, a four-time scoring champ, and has been to the all-star game 14 times. And now Kevin Durant is the most decorated Olympic men’s basketball player ever with his four gold medals, as the United States defeated France in the gold medal game on Saturday.

Durant has played a starring role during his time with Team USA, too. He’s the all-time leading scorer in the American basketball program, men’s or women’s, and now can readily stake a claim as the most accomplished Olympic basketball player for the United States in it’s illustrious history.

Durant is now one gold medal ahead of both Carmelo Anthony and his teammate on the 2024 team, LeBron James, who both have a trio of gold medals. He’s won gold at four-consecutive summer Olympic games: 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio, 2020 in Tokyo and 2024 in Paris.

Durant tied for second most points for the United States on Saturday with 15 — Steph Curry continued his supernova form from the semifinals, pouring in 24, all on 3s — adding four rebounds and four assists as the Americans outpaced their hosts.

And it’s perhaps fitting for Durant to take up the mantle of being one of the best to ever do it for the United States in basketball given his take on the nation after the semifinal win.

Either way, with this likely being the last Olympics for Durant, and many of his generation of greats, it’s a fitting send off on his Team USA career.
