The Chicago Bears have a decision to make in the NFL Draft. They could use the first pick to move on from Justin Fields and take a new quarterback, presumably Caleb Williams, or they can trade down and stick with Fields for the foreseeable future. Either way, it will shape the future of the franchise.

If the Bears are looking for a confident quarterback, Caleb Williams certainly fits the bill. Recently, he made an interesting comparison, bringing up how Patrick Mahomes and he have a similar game.

“Everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do,” Williams told CBS Sports. “I always said, even in high school, that I don’t think there’s anything … obviously, it’s special, but I don’t think there’s anything that I can’t do that he’s doing out there. I think it’s really cool. Like I said, I have comparisons of a bunch of other people to have. Patrick is pretty cool.”

In all fairness to Williams, he has drawn comparisons to Mahomes for his ability to create under pressure and incredible arm talent. Still, comparing yourself to the NFL‘s best quarterback is a massive bar to set for oneself before even being drafted.

The main argument for moving on from Justin Fields is to restart the clock on a rookie quarterback contract. Those contracts are generally much more manageable than second or third contracts for a quarterback and give a team flexibility.

Caleb Williams ended his college career with 10,082 yards passing, 93 passing touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 37 college games. He also had 966 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. If those numbers are indicative of what he can do in the NFL, then he has a bright future ahead of him.

Kliff Kingsbury says Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes share ‘eerie similarities’

Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury coached both Caleb Williams and Patrick Mahomes in college and now he’s revealed to Albert Breer that the two share a lot of similarities.

“The obvious [comparison], right? Caleb Williams is Patrick Mahomes,” Breer said. “And I’ve had no less an authority than Kliff Kingsbury say that to me on the record, that it’s eerie the similarities between the two of them. Remember, he coached Mahomes and told everyone who would listen about Mahomes when Mahomes was coming out in 2017. So he’s had a year now with Caleb Williams, and he’ll tell anybody that there are a lot of similarities between what Patrick Mahomes was in 2017 and what Caleb Williams is in 2024.”
