Report: Houston Texans trading Cam Akers to Minnesota Vikings
The Houston Texans are trading Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. He previously played for Minnesota last season before arriving in Houston to back up Joe Mixon this year.
As part of the deal, the Texans will get a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick. It’s a near-identical trade to last year’s deal between the Rams and Vikings for Akers.
Akers has made two starts in five appearances for the Texans this season after signing as a free agent. He has 147 yards and a touchdown to his name, including 42 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5.
Last year, Akers appeared in six games for Minnesota before suffering a torn Achilles. He totaled 138 yards and a touchdown during that time, and he’ll now join a Vikings team that has Aaron Jones anchoring the backfield.

Minnesota was on a bye last week after a perfect 5-0 start to the season. The offense appeared to be firing on all cylinders in the early going with Jones in the backfield, Sam Darnold at quarterback and Justin Jefferson as the top receiver.
However, Jones suffered an injury in the London game against the New York Jets, and Kevin O’Connell said he was undergoing further evaluation into the bye week. He called the former Green Bay Packers running back “week to week” as a result of the injury, and that adds another layer of intrigue around the move for Cam Akers.
“Aaron Jones continues to be evaluated,” O’Connell said. “All the early information that we’ve got so far — it looks like we’ve avoided a long-term injury. I’d classify him as really week-to-week at this point. He’ll get treatment throughout this week and I’ll give you guys an update where he’s at next week as we kinda hopefully work him back in, getting involved in practice and leading into whether we’ll have him versus the Lions.”
