Cam Little hits 70-yard field goal in preseason, four yards beyond NFL record

Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little is proving himself to have one heck of a leg early on in his NFL career. On Saturday, the second-year player out of Arkansas nailed a 70-yard field goal in a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The play occurred right before halftime and the Jaguars likely weren’t expecting to get any points out of it. After all, the NFL record-long for a field goal in only 66 yards. However, as the ball left Little’s foot, it was clear it had the distance and ultimately went through the uprights to the amazement of everyone.
Little’s range was well-known after he was 5-of-6 on field goals of 50 yards as a rookie, including a long of 59 yards. Additionally, Little had a career long of 56 yards at Arkansas.
However, Saturday’s kick is 11 yards longer than his previous best. It’s certainly a historic feat to witness, and if he can do that with any sort of consistency, Jacksonville has a dangerous weapon on offense.
Overall in his rookie season with the Jaguars, Little was 27-of-29 (93.1%) on his field goal attempts. He was also a perfect 27-of-27 on extra point attempts.

Little is the most accurate kicker in Arkansas history, hitting 82.8% of his field goals across three seasons in Fayetteville. He never missed a PAT, going 129-of-129 in his college career. He earned a captaincy for the Razorbacks for the 2023 season, as well as All-SEC First Team honors, as voted on by the coaches.
As a member of the Class of 2021, Little was a three-star recruit out of Southmoore (Okla.) High School, according to the On3 Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 21 overall prospect in the state of Oklahoma and the No. 1 kicker in the class.
The kick from Little was his third made field goal of the day as he had all of the Jaguars’ points going into halftime. He certainly has made his mark already and kept his team in the game.
Little will hope that accuracy and distance can carry over into the regular season. Perhaps he can even hit another 70-yarder. Jacksonville has two more preseason games before they kick things off against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 7.
