The Jacksonville Jaguars went with Arkansas kicker Cam Little late in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. The later rounds are the perfect time to pick up a special teamer.

And now we know what Little will earn as the 36th pick of the sixth round. According to Spotrac.com, Little will receive a four-year contract worth $4.158 million. The average, per year, will be $1.039 million.

Kickers usually don’t make it to the NFL via the draft. In fact, the Jaguars, before Little, had only drafted a kicker once in franchise history. That was back in 2004, when they picked Josh Scobee.

But Saturday’s sixth round proved to be active for kickers. First, the Vikings selected Alabama’s Will Reichard with the 27th pick of the sixth round. Then the Rams opted for Stanford’s Joshua Karty at slot 33. Three picks later, the Jaguars selected Little.

So why Little? He has a big leg, with seven made field goals of at least 50 yards. Overall, Little, made 53 of 64 career attempts. That’s a success rate of almost 83 percent. He also was a perfect 129 of 129 on extra points. Little made first-team All-SEC, as picked by the league coaches, last fall.

The Jaguars also made Little the first drafted Arkansas kicker in a decade. The last Razorback kicker to go in the draft was Zach Hocker. The then Washington Redskins selected Hocker in the seventh round.

Jacksonville needs a kicker. Little is now the third one on the roster. Lance Zierlein, a draft analyst for NFL.com, said Little has the leg for the pros.

“Little generates good velocity into the ball and hits it with consistency,” Zierlein wrote. “He will leave some kicks out to the right on misses, but you won’t see dead pulls. He has the leg strength for the league and just needs to become more automatic on kicks from 40-49 yards out.”
