Cam Newton calls out Anthony Richardson for tapping out: 'You can't do that'
It’s been a disaster of a year for Colts second year quarterback Anthony Richardson. He’s only completed 44% of his passes for 958 passing yards, while tossing in four touchdowns with seven interceptions. And on Sunday against the Houston Texans, Richardson drew the ire of NFL fans across the country, when he decided to sub himself out of the game. He threw a Texans defensive lineman off him, then made it back to the line of scrimmage.
Richardson was exhausted and decided to tap his helmet to sub out of the game. And he got a thorough evisceration from former NFL star Cam Newton on Thursday evening. Newton went on his podcast, 4thand1show, where he obliterated Richardson in every way, shape, and form.
Here is the rant.
Joe Flacco is going to take over under center for the Colts for the foreseeable future. The offense has looked much, much better with him back there. The key question will be what will the Colts do with Richardson long term? They’ll have to answer those difficult questions at some point.

Indianapolis currently sits at 4-4 overall, and they’ve got plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball, as long as they have a capable quarterback back there. Flacco, in four games this season, has completed 65.7% of his passes for 716 passing yards, while tossing in seven touchdowns with one interception. He’s continued to show fans some impressive work in the final two years of his career.
In 10 games so far in his NFL career, Anthony Richardson has completed 50.2% of his passes for 1,535 passing yards, while tossing in seven touchdowns with eight interceptions. He’s also been sacked 16 times. Simply put, while he is young in his NFL career, Richardson has to be better, humble himself, and see if he can turn things around down the road.
