Cam Newton calls out Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy and other QBs: 'These are game managers'

In his new episode of 4th and 1 with Cam Newton, former Panthers QB Cam Newton gave some of his former peers superlatives, including Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. While he named Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as “game-changers,” Newton said he believes Prescott belongs in the category of a “game manager.”

He grouped the eighth-year Cowboys veteran in with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa and even Lions QB Jared Goff.

“Brock, they’re not winning because of him,” Newton said. “He’s not turning the ball over. He’s managing the game. And if we were to put that in its own right, as game managers, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff, and really, Dak Prescott…these are game managers. They’re not difference makers.”

Despite claiming that Prescott, along with Purdy, Goff and Tagovailoa, are game managers, not “difference makers,” Newton called Tom Brady, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, a game manager as well. Thanks to his hot take, the former Heisman winner has been getting attention from the national talking heads, including those at ESPN. Get Up analyst Domonique Foxworth accused Newton of using “wild stuff” to expand his reach.

“He wants you to download, rate and review. He’s saying some wild stuff so he can get on ‘Get Up,'” Foxworth said. “So please do that man a favor because that’s absurd. Dak Prescott?! When he said Dak’s name, I was like, ‘He’s telling jokes right now.’”

Newton still waiting on an opportunity to return to NFL

Newton already has 1.11 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, but perhaps he’s angling for an even bigger platform amid his post-playing days. Last month, he joined The Dan Patrick Show this week, where he opened up about his time away from the NFL.

The former league MVP has been sitting on the outside looking in since the end of his second stint with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. Some have wondered, especially with so many teams turning to backup quarterbacks this year, why his phone isn’t ringing.

According to the former Auburn Tigers star, he has plenty of interest in returning to the big leagues.

“I know it doesn’t matter how many time you call,” Newton said. “If they don’t want you, they’re not going to pick up,” Newton explained. “So at the end of the day, I’ve known the NFL to do and be very intentional in what they do. It’s not manipulation and no swing. It doesn’t matter if I call them, if they don’t want me.”
