WATCH: Cam Newton makes disparaging comments against women on podcast appearance
Former NFL MVP and Auburn star Cam Newton drew criticisms after disparaging comments made against women during a podcast appearance. Newton provided his definition of “what a woman was” while speaking on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, making a claim about women who “can’t cook” and “don’t know when to be quiet.”

Cam Newton’s comments on women
Newton began his comments by addressing his male and female role models in his life growing up, using them as an example for “what a woman was” in his opinion. Newton explained that his parents have been together for over 35 years, and that he grew up in a household with his mother, father and grandmother as his role models.
“I knew what a woman was,” said Newton. “Not a ‘bad b****.’ A woman. There’s a lot of women who are ‘bad b****es,’ and I say ‘b****es’ in a way not to degrade a woman. But just to go off the aesthetic of what they deem is a ‘boss chick.’
“Now a woman for me is — handling your own, but knowing how to cater to a man’s needs, right? And I think a lot of times when you get that aesthetic of ‘I’m a boss b****, I’m a this, I’m a that.’ No, baby. But you can’t cook. You don’t know when to be quiet. You don’t know how to allow a man to lead.”

Newton’s comments immediately drew criticism from fans across the NFL, as many claimed his views were misogynistic and damaging. Defenders of Newton claimed that his criticism was about a specific type of person, and that he also criticized men in his comments made during the full interview.
Many were quick to point out that Newton’s current search for an NFL team could be impacted by his comments, as the NFL continues to battle criticisms about how they handle issues regarding domestic violence and more. After the criticisms levied towards the Cleveland Browns for their acquisition of Deshaun Watson, it would not be a surprise if Newton’s future team could be facing the same scenario — wherever that may be.
