Cam Newton names New York Giants as Shedeur Sanders' 'perfect fit' in 2025 NFL Draft

Former NFL Most Valuable Player Award recipient and first overall pick Cam Newton believes one team stands above the rest as the ideal destination for Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.
During the latest episode of First Take on ESPN, Newton championed the New York Giants as where Sanders should be hoping to land come April. He believes it makes too much sense for both sides, and it’s tough to argue with his rationalization.
“Talent-wise, I do think Cam Ward is more talented than Shedeur. If I’m Shedeur, that’s not something to shun away from. I wouldn’t want to go to Nashville if I was Shedeur. I would want to go to the Giants. … It’s a perfect fit. That aura,” Newton proclaimed.
“The thing that I do love about Shedeur is his ability to not waver, ‘He’s this, he’s that,’ his aura is engulfing. That can be intimidating, and when you think about all the teams in the league, there’s a handful of teams that will embody that. I can see everybody in New York [embracing him]. That’s who he is.”
All told, the Giants (No. 2) posted a 3-14 record this year with QB Daniel Jones leading the way, and it was uglier than their record would even indicate. Despite the team’s lack of past success, Newton thinks Sanders would fit in perfectly in the Big Apple, and it’s not the first time he’s implored the Giants to make a move to bring the quarterback to town.

“In New York, I think they bumped their head enough times, and hopefully they’ve learned from the Saquon’s, they’ve learned from the Odell’s,” Newton previously stated. “They’ve learned from having stars in their building and not doing right by them.
“I think New York presents a bigger pool for the Sanders name. What would that look like? And if we’re talking about business alone and opportunity alone. This is not even about Deion, more or less than about Shedeur right? I think Shedeur has him written all over it as a New York Giant.”
It makes sense, as Sanders certainly thrives in the spotlight, excelling during his two years at Colorado. In this season alone, Sanders erupted for 4,134 passing yards, 37 TD passes and four rushing scores while completing 74% of his pass attempts.
Perhaps Cam Newton is onto something. Regardless, the Giants have the third pick, so they aren’t guaranteed a shot at Shedeur Sanders. Still, the fit may be too good to pass up, as they look to shore up their quarterback position moving forward.
