Cam Newton offers personality advice to Caleb Williams: 'Just be you'
When it comes to Caleb Williams‘ on-field play, there are few question marks. Some, however, have been quick to make light of potential personality concerns specifically when it comes to the former USC quarterback’s attire.
Cam Newton, who like Williams has a unique fashion sense and has been criticized for it, recently gave advice to the NFL Draft prospect during an appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe.
“Just be you,” Newton said. “We don’t need no more Cam Newtons. We don’t need no more Peyton Mannings or Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady. Need unique players being themselves And I got news for you. Gen Z is here, and Gen Z is here to stay. So, whatever you may think, that, ‘Oh that ain’t football dude got pink nails,’ but I guarantee you if he paint his nails pink, even dye his hair pink, if they win football games ain’t nobody gonna worry about that. Let’s keep the main thing the main thing. Don’t you worry about fashion.”
Among his many fashion statements, Williams was spotted flaunting a pink phone case and painted nails while attending a recent USC women’s basketball game against Kansas. Of course, none of this has ever affected his play on the field.
Williams wrapped up his collegiate career having thrown for 10,082 yards, 93 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 66.9% passing across one season at Oklahoma and two at USC. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2022.

Caleb Williams a near-lock to the Bears in NFL Draft
With the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft approaching on April 25, Williams remains the likely No. 1 overall selection of the Chicago Bears. If the pick is indeed Williams, he’ll have an array of weapons to work with in Chicago. In addition to having star wideout D.J. Moore and tight end Cole Kmet in place, the Bears signed running back D’Andre Swift and acquired receiver Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this offseason.
At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month, Williams discussed potentially playing in Chicago.
“The Bears were 7-10 last year, and that’s pretty good for a team that has the first pick,” Williams said. “And they’ve got a good defense, they got good players on offense, and it’s pretty exciting if you can go into a situation like that.”
