Cam Newton was one of the greatest college football players of all-time during his time with the Auburn Tigers. He led them to a national title and won the 2010 Heisman Trophy in the process, firmly cementing his legacy as one of the greatest in the history of the sport. Newton has always been one to try different fashion ideas over the years. And on Saturday night at the 2024 Heisman Trophy ceremony, Newton wore a hat with the Heisman Trophy logo on it.

Cam Newton became the third Auburn player in program history to win the Heisman when he won it in 2010. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder ended up being the first double-transfer to win the award and the first junior-college transfer to do so since Mike Rozier did it in 1983.

He was a highly touted recruit out of Westlake High (Atlanta, Georgia) in 2006. Newton boasted a scholarship offer list that included Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Georgia Tech among others. He chose to sign with the Florida Gators, where he joined an incredibly stacked quarterback room. Tim Tebow (2007 Heisman Trophy winner), Chris Leak, John Brantley IV, and Newton were all on the same roster.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking for the 2007 cycle, Newton was tabbed as a five-star prospect and the No. 13 overall player in America. He redshirted during the 2008 season due to an ankle injury. He eventually left Florida, where he landed at Blinn Junior College. In the 2009 season there, Newton guided Blinn to the Junior College national championship in 2009, throwing for 2,833 yards and 22 touchdowns with 655 rushing yards.

The Auburn Tigers won a hotly contested battle for Newton’s services in the spring, and by that fall, he was the starting quarterback under center for the Tigers. With Gus Malzahn as his offensive coordinator, Newton put up prolific numbers, throwing for 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns with just six interceptions. As a runner, he had 1,409 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. It’s considered one of the greatest seasons in college football history.

He led Auburn to a win over Oregon in the BCS Championship game, lifting the Tigers to their first national title since 1957. Cam Newton also won the Heisman Trophy as well as 2010 SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors. The voting wasn’t even close for the Heisman.
