Carl Edwards dons firesuit, takes laps with Trevor Bayne at Flatrock Motorclub: ‘Not trying to start rumors’

Now, this is sure to get a few folks talking. Carl Edwards back in a firesuit? And a familiar one at that? Trevor Bayne, what have you done? These two former NASCAR drivers are going to make a few people get their hopes up.
Today on Trevor Bayne’s Instagram Story, Carl Edwards joined him for a few laps around Flatrock Motorclub. The track, located in Tennessee, is top of the line and Bayne serves as the Club Pro.
Bayne was able to convince Edwards to get his old Farris firesuit out. Is there more to this than meets the eye?
“Alright so my Amazon Prime teammate Trevor Bayne says, ‘Hey, come by, check out what I’m doing.’ I had no clue,” Edwards said. “We’re at Flatrock, amazing road course, he’s going to give me a ride in this car. It is throwback weekend; I’ve got a 10-year-old driving suit. Man, tell us what we’re doing today.”
“Well, most of all, I just wanted to get Carl back in a firesuit,” Bayne replied. “People have been trying for like 8 years now and I can check that box. He’s here in a firesuit, we’re not trying to start rumors; we’re just here to have a little bit of fun, and he’s going to ride in the right seat. I don’t know how comfortable you are with that.”
“Like, shaking right now,” Edwards followed up. “Right seat with Trevor Bayne? This place looks fast, we’ll see how it goes.”
The two ended up trading seats at one point. Carl Edwards may have almost put the Porsche into the wall, but thank goodness sports cars have traction control, right? So, all’s well that ends well.
“Okay, um, we haven’t prepped for this, but scale of 1 to 10 like, how scary was it sitting in the right seat while I was driving?” Edwards asked.

“Honestly, man, I trusted you all the way,” Bayne responded. “He’s the most prepared guy I’ve ever met, he’s ready for any situation. We did get pretty free off of 7 that one time. Got into the traction control, had to correct.”
While we are not going to see Carl Edwards in the Cup Series ever again, what if we could just get crumbs of him racing? IMSA would be such a fun place for someone like Edwards. However, I’m here to tell you – don’t get your hopes up.
At the end of the IG Story, there is a telling moment. Edwards mentions that he and Bayne are flying to Charlotte for the weekend. Well, there is the Charlotte AutoFair and the Heritage Invitational at the new Ten Tenths Motor Club.
To me, it sounds like that is where these two are headed. During the events there will be racing on the new Ten Tenths track from the Historic Trans Am Series. There will also be a Pro-Am race featuring all kinds of NASCAR and sports car stars.
So, we might get more from these two before it is all said and done. Marcus Smith and Rick Hendrick are opening the Ten Tenths Club very soon, with this weekend acting as a sort of soft opening. Check out this article with comments from Smith and details on Ten Tenths. Also, keep your eyes out for more Carl Edwards sightings.
