This weekend, Carl Edwards is being honored by Nashville Superspeedway but he is also talking about a potential NASCAR return. At least, he’s entertaining the questions about a NASCAR return. For now, the fan-favorite retired driver seems to be enjoying his life away from racing. Although you can tell the track is starting to pull him back in.

Cousin Carl looks like he’s in shape enough to drive in NASCAR still. However, things are different in 2023. There is a reason why drivers like Edwards have hung up their helmet and firesuit. Health.

There is no doubt that these cars are dangerous. Any form of motorsport is dangerous. So, Carl Edwards has to think about it. However, according to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Edwards at least has some interest in coming back to the sport.

Unfortunately, he followed up his statement of interest by saying “I am not planning on doing any driving.”

I don’t think we’re going to see Carl Edwards suit up for Daytona or Talladega any time soon. If driving isn’t his thing, maybe we could see Edwards move into a different role. Hell, he looks big and strong enough to be a fuel guy now on a pit crew.

The good news is that Edwards feels like he can come out to races again. He was at Darlington for the 75 Greatest Drivers induction. He is now at Nashville to be honored and take in the sights and sounds of the Ally 400.

Carl Edwards is the ‘special guest’ for Ally 400

In his career, Carl Edwards raced at Nashville Superspeedway more than a few times. He also won his fair share of races at the track. Six, in fact. Edwards was the winner of five Xfinity Series races as well as a Truck Series race during his career as a driver.

Last week it was announced that Edwards would be a special guest at Nashville Superspeedway.

“Edwards will make an appearance at the fan zone stage where he will be interviewed by NASCAR personality Alex Weaver,” the superspeedway said in the statement. “He will also make a stop by the pre-race concert stage prior to country music star Parker McCollum’s performance. Edwards is scheduled to participate in official pre-race ceremonies and will make a special visit with guests in the Green Room Lounge, one of Nashville Superspeedway’s newly created VIP and premium experiences.”

Fans in Music City are going to get a good dose of Carl Edwards this weekend. One of the legends of the sport and one of the biggest “what-ifs,” it is always nice to have Cousin Carl around.
