Carolina Panthers announce multiple signings, waives after injury-riddled weekend
The Carolina Panthers made several moves Monday coming out of Saturday’s 15-12 home defeat to the New York Jets in their second preseason game.
Carolina signed cornerbacks Chris Wilcox and Quandre Mosley after the two had a workout with the team Monday. Cornerback Willie Drew, receiver Sam Pinckney and running back Jaden Shirden, who were all with the Panthers earlier in training camp, signed back with the team. The Panthers waived Pinckney earlier in camp while Drew and Shirden took part in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots.
Wilcox, a 2021 seventh round selection of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has yet to suit up in an NFL regular season game. Mosley played in just one game for the Patriots in 2022.
In corresponding moves, the Panthers placed cornerback Anthony Brown and quarterback Jake Luton on injured reserve, waived-injured cornerback Lamar Jackson and receiver Tayvion Robinson and waived running back Dillon Johnson, who scored a touchdown on the final play of the game against the Jets.

Panthers thin at CB as regular season approaches
The Panthers suddenly became thin at the cornerback position after head coach Dave Canales announced that Dane Jackson would miss “six-weeks-ish” with a hamstring injury he sustained in practice last week. Jackson, 27, signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal with the Panthers earlier this offseason. Carolina had listed him on the unofficial depth chart as a starting corner alongside Jaycee Horn.
Jackson, the former Nebraska standout, had an impressive camp and starred in Carolina’s first two preseason games. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just one catch for three yards on six targets, making one stop. Jackson, however, suffered a knee injury against the Jets. He will revert back to Carolina’s practice squad if he passes through waivers. Brown, the veteran corner, also picked up an injury on Saturday. The 30-year-old signed with the Panthers earlier this month.
