Carolina Panthers designate defensive end Henry Anderson for return from NFI list

The Carolina Panthers made a key roster move on Wednesday ahead of their game on Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks.

The Panthers designated defensive lineman Henry Anderson for a return from the team’s non-football injury list, which he has been on since he was a late scratch for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup on Oct. 23.

The Panthers signed Anderson on September 15 of this season and he’s appeared in six games for them, recording 12 tackles from his interior defensive line position.

Anderson has provided run-stopping abilities and a veteran presence for the Panthers so far this year. He is currently in his eighth season in the league after going in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Stanford.

The Panthers now have a 21-day window to get the defensive end back on the field. He could receive his activation to the 53-man roster at any point through the 21-day window.

Panthers sign defensive back TJ Carrie to active roster

On Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers signed defensive back TJ Carrie, adding the veteran defensive back to the 53-man roster. Carrie moved from the practice squad to the active roster previously, playing in the past two games for the Panthers.

Carrie played on defense and special teams for the Panthers in the last two games, a loss to the Baltimore Ravens and then a win over the Denver Broncos. Against the Broncos, Carrie forced and recovered a fumble.

In a corresponding move to fill the open spot on the practice squad, the Panthers have signed quarterback Davis Cheek. The Panthers were likely looking for a quarterback after granting the request of former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield and releasing him.
