Carolina Panthers Inactive List: Latest on player availability vs. Chicago Bears
The Carolina Panthers are set to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, with both teams looking for a key win early in the season. However, they’re both also going to be without several key players for this game between NFC South and NFC North foes.
One player who it looks like Carolina is going to be without for the foreseeable future is Shaq Thompson. He suffered what appeared to be a torn Achilles last week. With that, the Panthers are going to need to find a way to replace a productive veteran on defense who has acted as a leader on that side of the ball throughout the season.
Here’s a look at who is inactive for the Carolina Panthers:
Panthers Inactives:
DB, Russ Yeast
RB, Mike Boone
LB, Josey Jewell
OL, Andrew Raym
OL, Jarrett Kingston
Edge, Jayden Peevy
In place of Shaq Thompson, the Panthers are expected to turn to rookie linebacker Trevin Wallace. He’ll also have the green dot on his helmet, meaning he’s going to be the player on the defense who coaches are able to communicate with throughout the game. Thompson has since gone on Injured Reserve, which is why he doesn’t appear on the inactive list.
Carolina will also be without Josey Jewell at the linebacker position. He is dealing with groin and hamstring issues this week. That does put the Panthers in a difficult position going into this game with depth being a major concern.

Also on the defense, Jayden Peevy and Russ Yeast are going to be inactive for the game. Luckily, Carolina is getting veteran Shy Tuttle back from injury. He’ll anchor the middle of the defensive line from his nose tackle position. He missed the previous two games with a foot injury.
On top of that, Carolina also made the decision to activate defensive tackle TJ Smith and linebacker Thomas Incoom from their practice squad this week.
Carolina has struggled this season, having already made the decision to bench second-year quarterback Bryce Young. In his place, the Panthers have been playing Andy Dalton. Since then, the offense has improved some, but there are still major questions on that side of the ball.
On the other side, Chicago has been going through growing pains of a young offense as well. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has flashed his potential at times but the Bears would still like to get more from that side of the ball.
