Carolina Panthers: Inactives for Week 5 versus San Francisco 49ers
The Carolina Panthers enter Week 5 with a 1-3 record following a 10-point loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Hoping to right the ship, they host the San Francisco 49ers (2-2) for a cross-coast matchup at home.
Three Panthers were questionable coming into Sunday and now, several more are officially out. Most notably, safety Xavier Woods is out with a hamstring injury. It’s a major blow to the Panthers defense that lost Jeremy Chinn to IR this week. Also a big loss, linebacker Frankie Luvu is out with a nagging shoulder injury.
The Panthers will likely start Cory Littleton in Luvu’s spot, and start Juston Burris and Myles Hartsfield at safety. Three of their four leading tacklers are out today against the 49ers.

The Panthers have a big test against the San Francisco 49ers defense and they’ll face it without versatile wideout Laviska Shenault Jr. Shenault is still recovering from a hamstring injury and has just two catches so far this season. Also out is wide receiver Rashard Higgins.
Cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver and tight end Stephen Sullivan are also out with thigh and back injuries, respectively.

Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn placed on injured reserve
The Carolina Panthers placed safety Jeremy Chinn on injured reserve on Wednesday, meaning he’ll be unavailable to the defense for at least a month. The third-year player left Sunday’s game versus Arizona after playing six snaps.
In a corresponding move, the Panthers signed veteran safety Juston Burris from the practice squad.
For the Panthers, putting the injured safety on IR means counting on backup Sean Chandler. Chandler posted five tackles in the 26-16 loss to the Cardinals and two versus the Browns.
Chinn was Carolina’s second-round pick from the 2020 NFL draft out of Southern Illinois. He has been impressive over his first two seasons. He’s also been reliable, starting 35 games since his joined the Panthers. Chinn missed one game his rookie season with a knee injury, and the 2021 finale with an ankle injury.
