Carolina Panthers lock up RB Chuba Hubbard with 4-year, $33.2 million extension
The Carolina Panthers have come to an agreement on an extension with Chubba Hubbard.
The Panthers announced the new deal for him earlier on Thursday. Ian Rapoport also reported that the contract will be a four-year one that’s worth $33.2 million.
“The #Panthers have locked in one of their young stars, agreeing to terms with RB Chuba Hubbard on 4-year, $33.2M contract extension,” Rapoport tweeted. “He gets a max value of $37.2M with $15M in new fully guaranteed money.”
“The team extended the contract of running back Chuba Hubbard, rewarding a player who exemplifies what head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan want the Panthers to look like. The four-year extension keeps him here through 2028,” Carolina wrote in their release. “(Hubbard) would have been a free agent at the end of the season so locking him up now was a priority for the organization.”
Hubbard is amidst his best season so far in the NFL. Over nine games, he has 133 carries for 665 yards and five touchdowns. That has him on pace for a career year with eight games to go in rushes and yardage with the scores already tying totals from two of his prior seasons. With that, Hubbard is also fifth in the league in rushing yards while being tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns.

Through four seasons as a pro, Hubbard has 2,645 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 638 attempts. He also has 104 receptions for 686 yards and two more scores.
Hubbard came to Carolina as a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State. That came after a collegiate career with the ‘Pokes where he posted 3,459 rushing yards, good for 104.8 per game, and 33 touchdowns on the ground. 2019 was the best in his collegiate career with 2,094 yards, which led the nation in rushing, and 21 touchdowns as an All-American and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Hubbard, who is 25 years old, has worked well as a lead back through his time with the Panthers. That earned him this new deal today as one of the more highly-paid rushers in the entire league now.
