Adam Thielen injury update: Carolina Panthers place WR on injured reserve
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen left Sunday’s game with an injury that will now force him to miss some time on the field. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Carolina will be placing the veteran wide receiver on the injured reserve. He is expected to be back sooner than later according to Rapoport.
Thielen’s injury comes at an unfortunate time, with the Panthers securing their first win of the season on Sunday in a 36-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. A game where Thielen caught four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton notably made his first start of the season for Carolina after the benching of former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young.
Thielen being placed on the injured reserve means he’ll miss a minimum of four games for the Panthers, with his earliest possible return being in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos. He heads to the IR with eight receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown on the season amid his 12th year in the NFL.

Thielen was the Panthers leading wide receiver last season during Young’s rookie year, catching 103 passes for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns in a disappointing 2-15 season for Carolina. This 1,000-yard season was the first time since he did so in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent 10 seasons and made two Pro Bowl appearances before signing a three-year $25 million deal with Carolina in 2023.
Carolina acquired former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Diontae Johnson in a trade this offseason and traded up to the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to acquire South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette. Two additions to help bolster their lackluster passing game from a season ago that will now have to play an increased role for at least the next four weeks in Thielen’s absence.
