Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young is set to miss practice for a second consecutive day, the Panthers announced on Thursday.

Young is dealing with an ankle injury that was suffered against the Saints on Monday night. The Panthers will play at the Seahawks this weekend.

With Young out, veteran Andy Dalton is working with the first team. Dalton has yet to attempt a pass this season, but he has thrown for more than 38,000 yards in his career.

Young and the Panthers are off to an 0-2 start after falling to the Saints on Monday. Carolina was competitive against New Orleans but ultimately suffered a 20-17 loss.

Bryce Young was solid against the Saints in his second NFL start, going 22 of 33 passing for 153 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions. He was also second on the team in rushing with 34 yards.

On the season, Young has passed for 299 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Seahawks are favored by 6.5 points ahead of Sunday’s game.

Skip Bayless supports Bryce Young amid criticism about his size

Bryce Young hasn’t had a great start to his NFL career as the Panthers are 0-2 and his numbers are less than stellar.

However, Skip Bayless is still a believer in the former Alabama star and Heisman winner.

Bayless examined Young’s first two outings in the league during ‘Undisputed’ on Tuesday. To him, his collegiate experience was undervalued in his professional outlook, considering how his poise and toughness have translated from the Crimson Tide to the Panthers.

“This kid is made of the right stuff. (His) intangibles are off the charts, durability has been off the charts,” said Bayless. “At Alabama, they raved about how he’s more put together than you’re giving him credit for, because he took his pounding in the SEC. I know it’s college football but it is the highest level of college football. He took his shots and he jumped back up and kept firing. … Listen, Bryce hung in there and threw four or five really good balls where it raised your eyebrows.”

Some have criticized and doubted Young because of his size. However, Bayless believes he is a good enough player to overcome being 5-10, if the Panthers help him out and get him some better weapons.

“If you take ‘little, tiny’ Bryce in his second NFL start and you put him behind a shaky offensive line against that pass rush and that scheme? And you say, ‘You can’t run the football at all’ … Every running play was like, ‘I’m going to hand it off to Miles Sanders right here. He’s going to run into three New Orleans Saints within one second and he is going to go nowhere.’ That’s our running game?” Bayless said.

“What’d I tell you at the end of the show yesterday? He has the worst group of weapons in the National Football League. There’s just Adam Thielen or bust.”
