Carolina Panthers reveal Thursday injury report ahead of Week 5 matchup with 49ers
After two days of practice, the Carolina Panthers are still dealing with plenty of question marks heading into this week’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. Carolina released its updated injury report, which includes five players who missed practice on Thursday.
Two players — Frankie Luvu and Stephen Sullivan — both missed Thursday’s practice after participating on Wednesday. Sullivan was a full participant on Wednesday but missed Thursday as he deals with a back injury, while Luvu went from limited to DNP with a shoulder injury.
Some good news came from Marquis Haynes and Shaq Thompson, who were both upgraded to a full participant after being limited on Wednesday. Carolina is gearing up to take on San Francisco Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

An important player who came off the injury report is Christian McCaffrey, who missed Wednesday due to rest. But Luvu and Sullivan both took steps back after practicing on Wednesday, meaning the Panthers could be looking at some question marks heading into the game against the 49ers. Luvu’s absence would be huge considering he’s the Panthers’ top tackler this season.
Full participants — DE Marquis Haynes (knee), LB Shaq Thompson (knee)
Both Haynes and Thompson took steps forward on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday, and their statuses appear to be trending in the right direction for a Carolina defense tasked with defending Deebo Samuel and the San Francisco offense. Thompson sits second only to Luvu with 30 tackles this season, so he could be in position to make an impact if Luvu can’t go.
