Carson Hocevar to race Legacy Motor Club No. 42 car at Kansas and Bristol
It looks like LEGACY Motor Club and Carson Hocevar got the formalities over with and locked up another couple of races. Hocevar is in the NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs but with time between races, these Cup Series starts are going to come in handy.
Darlington Raceway will be a hard challenge for Carson Hocevar. However, rumors are swirling that he might be headed to the Cup Series next season. So, getting reps in the Next Gen car, regardless of manufacturer, is good experience.
Josh Berry had been filling in on ovals. However, the Super-Sub is likely focused on his final Xfinity Series Playoffs run. Seeking a championship before he heads to Stewart-Haas in 2024 to replace Kevin Harvick. So, Hocevar will be the replacement for Noah Gragson. Maybe even as the season moves forward.
We don’t know beyond these three Round of 16 races. Here’s how the team made the announcement.
Carson Hocevar has had a breakout season this year. Not just in his Niece Motorsports truck, but in his NASCAR career as a whole. With his first career win secured at Texas this season, he’s gone on to win at Nashville and Richmond as well. He also has six additional top-5s on top of that. Four finishes of P31 or worse have hindered him a little bit, but Hocevar has really turned a corner.

Carson Hocevar gets his name on the car
Another big moment for Carson Hocevar, he gets his name on the No. 42 Chevy this weekend and the next two after that. Darlington will be the first time his name has been printed on a banner and put on a Cup Series ride, ever. When he replaced Corey LaJoie in the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevy, LaJoie’s name remained on the car.
Many are wondering how Hocevar will perform. At Gateway, he was running around the top-15 and running very well when his brake rotor failed and ended his day early. The good news is, there are no top-10 finishes this season in the 42 car, so the pressure isn’t really there. A top-20 finish for that car is a good day at the track.
Silly Season has not even begun to get going yet. There are announcements to still be made for retirements. Also returning drivers and new drivers moving up to the higher ranks of NASCAR. Josh Berry raced to a P34 and P22 finish in his two starts since Gragson’s departure. Mike Rockenfeller was P24 and P19 at Indy and Watkins Glen.
Will we see Carson Hocevar outperform those drivers at Darlington?
