Thankfully, the No. 66 car is still good to go this weekend, but Casey Mears and Garage 66 have made a last-second change in sponsors. It isn’t every day you see primary sponsorship change on the Thursday of a NASCAR race week.

Garage 66 and Casey Mears were going to race with HitchGo, a brand that has made an appearance on a number of NASCAR and ARCA cars recently. However, it appears that the deal has changed.

Instead, Canter Power Systems and Coble Enterprises will split the car. Canter will be on the hood with Coble on the quarter panels. Mears will lineup this weekend for this NASCAR return.

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Garage 66 and Casey Mears for the upcoming Martinsville race,” said Brian Lopatka, CEO of Canter Power Systems. “At Canter Power Systems, we seek new ways to amplify our brand and connect with our audience.

“This sponsorship not only aligns with our commitment to innovation and excellence but also allows us to engage with NASCAR fans in a meaningful way. We are confident this partnership will deliver powerful results both on and off the track, and we’re only getting started.”

Casey Mears is on the path to 500 Cup Series starts. He sits at 489 starts at the moment. He would be the 48th driver to accomplish the feat. Hopefully, he doesn’t have anymore sponsorship woes moving forward. We expect to see Mears race multiple times this season.

Casey Mears has last-second change before Martinsville

Good news for Casey Mears and Garage 66, they won’t have to worry about qualifying. With less than 40 cars in the field, the No. 66 car will make the field for Sunday. That is when the hard work will begin.

Martinsville is a tricky place to make a return. Mears has raced at the track 27 times in the past in Cup Series competition. His best finish came with Chip Ganassi and Hendrick Motorsports. P6 in 2006 and then P6 again in 2008.

The last time that Mears raced at Martinsville was in 2016. He was with Germain Racing. That race, Mears started P26 and finished P21. Any kind of finish anywhere near the lead lap will be a success for Mears in his return.

There is a lack of pressure on Casey Mears this weekend. No one expects him to be competitive and race up front. This is for him to get back into the groove of things.
