Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb is not expected to report to training camp when it officially begins Wednesday, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The news comes as he is seeking a contract extension with the team.

Lamb is set to enter the final season of his rookie deal and will make $17.99 million in 2024. An earlier report Tuesday from Cowboys beat reporter Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News revealed that Dallas and Lamb have not had “substantial contract talks.”

The No. 17 overall pick in 2020, Lamb has worked out well for the Cowboys over the past four seasons. He has led the team in receiving each of the past three years, finishing this past season with a league-leading 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Several other receivers received big contract extensions this offseason, including AJ BrownJustin JeffersonAmon-Ra St. Brown, and Jaylen Waddle. Lamb certainly belongs among them and it’s likely only a matter of time before he reaches an agreement with Dallas.

Lamb was also absent from the Cowboys’ minicamp and accrued more than $100,000 in fines. More fines will come as a result of him missing training camp, but it could be worth it should he come out with the deal he wants.

Lamb isn’t the only Dallas player seeking a new contract, however. Pro Bowl linebacker Micah Parsons is hoping for a new deal as well. The Cowboys are coming off of a 12-5 finish this past season and securing both players will be crucial for their long-term future.

Stephen Jones ‘confident’ Cowboys can deal with both Lamb, Parsons contracts

Perhaps no team in the league is in more of a bind than the Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2024 season. The team has the head coach, Mike McCarthy, entering his final season under contract, as well as Dak Prescott, and they have extensions for two of the league’s top players coming up with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.

This week on Scoop City with Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones opened up about the balancing act the team must perform to work on these major deals simultaneously. No long-term deals have been signed this offseason and the cap space paints a bleak picture for the Dallas’ balance sheet.

“Those things take time,” Jones said, regarding the potential mega-deals. “We’re talking about deals here… two players that aren’t quarterbacks, they feel like they outta be like (Justin) Jefferson, the top paid non-quarterbacks in the league,  and then of course you have Dak.

“His resume speaks for itself. He was second in MVP voting last year. He’s had an extraordinary career here in Dallas. Those things just take time when you’re talking about the amount of money involved.”
