Chad Kelly leads team's epic CFL touchdown celebration
During his time at Ole Miss, Chad Kelly became a star quarterback known for his big personality and occasional behavioral issues. He went on to briefly play in the NFL, as a backup, before landing in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts. Now, it seems like he’s hitting his stride again.
During a win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto scored late to put the game away. So, Kelly decided to lead his offense in an incredible touchdown celebration. Really, it has to be seen to be believed.
You can watch Chad Kelly lead the Toronto Argonauts in an epic touchdown celebration, here:
In the celebration, the offense gets into a circle while sitting on the ground criss-cross apple sauce-style. Everyone then mimicked picking up a bowl and eating from it before they passed it along. That’s because everyone on Toronto was eating during the game.
In the end, Toronto beat Hamilton 31-15 to get to 5-0 on the season. Chad Kelly was fantastic in the game, throwing for 306 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for an additional touchdown.
Since this game, the Argonauts added another win and their first loss, bringing Toronto to 6-1 on the season. That’s good for a two-game lead in the CFL’s East Division.
Chad Kelly is the nephew of Jim Kelly, who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after having a phenomenal career with the Buffalo Bills. However, he didn’t spend his entire career in the NFL, starting out in the USFL before going to Buffalo.

Originally signing on to be Toronto’s backup quarterback, Chad Kelly had to come into the Grey Cup last season when McLeod Bethel-Thompson was injured. He saved the day and led a game-winning drive to win the game.
Chad Kelly is the guy in 2023
Despite coming into the 2022 season as the backup, Chad Kelly’s heroics helped earn him the starting job ahead of the 2023 season.
“It’s fantastic,” Kelly told TSN. “It’s every kid’s dream to be on a professional football team and let alone start. I’m just trying to take full advantage of this opportunity. Keep on getting better. Push these guys.”
To this point, Chad Kelly has done a good job as the starter for Toronto. With only one loss to this point in the season, the Argonauts are making a good defense of their Grey Cup and could very well be on their way to their 19th title.
