Chargers DE Joey Bosa carted off field in tears with foot injury vs Packers

The Los Angeles Chargers began Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers with a scary injury to star edge rusher Joey Bosa. The former Ohio State standout finished a play with a significant limp, holding up his right leg after getting tangled up with a Packers offensive lineman.

Bosa took a cart off the field to the locker room and hid his face with a towel as tears streamed. He’s had 20 tackles with 6.5 sacks in eight games so far this season. He missed most of the 2022 season as he dealt with injuries to his groin and core muscles.

The Chargers announced that he is questionable to return for the Week 11 matchup against the Packers. They classified the linebacker’s injury as one to his foot.

Last season, Bosa had the least productive season of his career, as expected due to his groin injury. He posted 10 tackles with 2.5 sacks in five games played in the regular season. When he returned from injury, the 6-foot-5 defender added a tackle in the postseason loss to Jacksonville.

Since going No. 3 overall to the Chargers in the 2016 NFL Draft, Bosa has racked up 60.5 career regular-season sacks with 14 forced fumbles. This year is the fourth year of his $135 million contract extension that runs through 2025.

Packers, Chargers enter Week 11 below .500

The Green Bay Packers welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Lambeau Field for a pivotal mid-November game.

Both the Packers and the Chargers are coming into this game with losing records on the season. Both teams also had higher expectations for this season and are looking to turn things around as quickly as possible. In particular, Green Bay has lost five of its last six games and is now third in the NFC North. Without turning things around quickly, the Packers won’t have a shot at winning the division.

Last week, Green Bay lost a close game to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That was the Packers’ fourth one-score loss this season. So, it’s easy to see how close Green Bay is to potentially having a winning record this season. The Chargers, meanwhile, are coming off a close loss to the Lions. That was also Los Angeles’ fourth one-score loss of the season.
