On Friday, several players and staff members from the Los Angeles Chargers suffered a terrifying experience ahead of their preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The franchise provided further details on the incident.

“At approximately 7:30 pm CT Friday evening, several players and members of the Chargers traveling party were stranded in an inoperable elevator at the team hotel,” the statement read. “Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the incident and subsequently assisted everyone from the elevator, one-by-one, through its ceiling panel and into an adjacent elevator.

This isn’t the first time disaster has nearly struck an NFL team at a hotel this preseason. On Tuesday, the Oxnard Fire Department and Police were called to the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp home at the River Ridge Residence Inn due to a fire in one of the guests’ rooms.

“There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif.,” a press statement read. “The emergency was contained to one room, that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.”

The Cowboys were preparing for an afternoon walkthrough when the fire began. When the Cowboys stay at the River Ridge Residence Inn, no other guests are allowed at the hotel. It is strictly limited to Cowboys players, staff and personnel.

After the fire was contained, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy commented on the wild situation.

“It’s the beauty of the National Football League,” McCarthy said. “When you think you’ve seen it all, sometimes things like this happen. It’s a very unfortunate situation. Thankful no one was hurt.”

With so much bad luck out of the way, perhaps the Cowboys and Chargers will put on an awe-inspiring show on Saturday when they square off for their final preseason matchup. The two teams will go toe-to-toe at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
