Chargers WR Derius Davis takes 87-yard punt return to the house for first NFL touchdown
The Los Angeles Chargers (3-4) wasted no time opening up a one score lead over the New York Jets (4-3) in their Week 9 matchup Monday.
After the Jets went three-and-out on their first offensive drive of the game, Chargers rookie punt returner Derius Davis was presented with an opportunity to make a play. Not only did he make a play, but the fourth-round pick out of TCU returned the punt 87 yards for a touchdown — the first of his NFL career.

Davis showed off the ability he flashed at TCU, where he took five punt returns to the house over the course of his collegiate career. The 23-year-old also contributed as a receiver, hauling in 112 receptions for 1,513 yards and nine touchdowns. He reeled in a career-high 42 receptions for 531 yards and five scores in 2022, helping lead the Horned Frogs to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Davis has been seldom used in his first season with the Chargers, coming down with just seven catches for 38 yards. He entered Monday’s contest sixth in punt return average (11.6).
